Flemish Institute for Technological Research
Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) is a leading, independent research organization in Belgium providing sustainable technological solutions to industry and public authorities. The VITO Laboratory for inorganic and organic analysis (GOAL) has broad experience and expertise in the determination and speciation of elements in a variety of matrices, environmental regulatory monitoring, physical-chemical characterization of nanomaterials, and development of analytical techniques for nanoparticle characterization.
The InPlasTwin team leader at VITO is Prof. Dr. Stefan Voorspoels. He is an experienced team leader and project manager in the field of chemical analysis and method development. Additionally, he has gained valuable knowledge in metrology, analytical quality assurance, and control during his time at the European Commission Joint Research Centre’s Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements. He is dedicated to guiding and mentoring young researchers, providing them with valuable insights, professional training, and support for their career development. As a part of his team, Dr. Milica Velimirovic Fanfani’s main research interests concern the development of new mass spectrometry analytical strategies and methods to access and predict the health and environmental risks of nanomaterials including nanoplastics. Over the course of the InPlasTwin project, VITO will share their excellence in sample pre-treatment procedures with JSI and AUA researchers and will also demonstrate applications of single particle ICP-MS, multidetector FFF systems, SEC, Py-GC-MS, STEM, μ-XRF, NTA and DLS in MPs/NPs characterization.
