Institute of Marine Research (IMR)
Institute of Marine Research (IMR) is a governmental research institute affiliated to the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries that conducts research on a variety of topics, including factors influencing the marine environment, the effect of climate change, food, and nutrition security, the monitoring of contaminants and biohazards in seafood and analysis of nutrients in different fish species.
The InPlasTwin team leader at IMR is Dr. André Marcel Bienfait (H-index 7), whose current main research interests lies in the detection and characterization of nanoparticles (plastic and inorganic) in environmental and (sea)food matrices. He has worked for several years in the nanoparticles-producing industry, where he was involved both in the synthesis, as well as characterization of nanoparticles. In his role as a researcher at IMR he is heavily involved in the development of novel analytical methods and in advisory work. During the InPlasTwin twinning activities, IMR will share their extensive experience in the spectroscopic techniques (μFTIR and QCL-μIR instruments, as well as machine learning for processing complex hyperspectral imaging datasets) and mass spectrometric techniques (high-end LC-MS and Py-GC-MS instruments) for the analysis of MNPs.
