Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI)
Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI), the InPlasTwin project coordinator, was founded in 1949 and is the leading Slovenian research organization in the fields of natural sciences and technology. The Department of Environmental Sciences from JSI has long-lasting and broad experience in the field of environmental analytical chemistry and extensive knowledge of the cycling of pollutants in environmental compartments and tracing of sources of pollutants by advanced mass spectrometry techniques.
The leading member of the project coordinator is Asst. Prof. Dr. Janja Vidmar, a research associate at the Department of Environmental Sciences at JSI and an assistant professor at Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School. JSI involvement in the InPlasTwin project is driven by our expertise in the analysis of nano- and micro-sized particles, including inorganic nanoparticles and nano- and microplastics, and other inorganic and organic compounds in biological, environmental, and food samples. The InPlasTwin project will enable JSI to enhance its research and innovation capacity in the analysis of micro- and nanoplastics and plastic additives in both the environment and food systems. Through networking activities, knowledge sharing, and research collaboration with the InPlasTwin project partners, we aim to better understand the presence and effects of micro- and nanoplastics in agriculture, and how they are absorbed by food products such as strawberries. Moreover, as an InPlasTwin project coordinator, JSI will also take care of the project management and administration, promote diversity inclusion and ethical practices in science, and support the dissemination of findings to the scientific community, industry, and the public.
